History that remembers the Teutonic Knights and Karel Jaromír Erben

You will find V. I. T. R. Studio in Miletín – a picturesque town in the Podzvičinsko region. It is housed in one of the very oldest cottages in the town, located right next to the birthplace of the famous writer Karel Jaromír Erben. It is more than likely that Erben sat here as a boy, soaking up the stories that later gave rise to his legendary poetry collection Kytice (The Bouquet).

However, the roots of this place reach even deeper into the past. Historical evidence suggests that the Order of Teutonic Knights built a chapel or tomb here as part of a now-vanished commandery. The house itself was later built over these foundations by a local shoemaker in 1733. Over the centuries, tailors, sextons, a joiner, nuns, seamstresses, and even a music composer lived here. Every single one of them left their imprint.

Sensitive restoration with respect for tradition: The entire space is undergoing a gradual, detailed reconstruction carried out with a deep appreciation for folk traditions, original architecture, and honest craft. Everything is crafted by hand and with respect for history.

A unique space where wood, sandstone, and musical notes come to life

The studio’s interior is a showcase of master craftsmanship. You are surrounded by solid sandstone everywhere – in the foundations, the mysterious cellar, the stone doorframes, and the porch. The air smells of larch doors with forged details and solid wooden flooring.

The atmosphere is brought to perfection by carefully restored antique furniture and artifacts:

• Carved beds, antique armoires, and chests,
• A Neo-Baroque table, comfortable armchairs, a period sofa, and a chess table with a marble top,
• A Pfaff sewing machine, original paintings, and an easel complete with paints,
• Musical instruments: An upright piano, guitars, an accordion, a clarinet, and other instruments ready for immediate improvisation.

In the original chapel, you will now find a creative workshop featuring historic paintings on the walls and a coat of arms in the center of the vaulted ceiling (Bohemian sail vaults). The heart of the kitchen features a historic Rex stove and vaults left over from old bread ovens.

A Creative Clubhouse

V. I. T. R. Studio is not just a static museum – it is a living organism. Under the vaulting of the old bread oven lies a stylish draft beer tap with three conical Lindr Baroko taps. The beer cooling system is hidden in the pantry, and kegs of honest beer rest in the cool sandstone cellar.

Together with the resident cat Tonička, you can create, relax, or simply be. The studio provides facilities for:

• Artistic Photography: Unique light and historic props, with the option for immediate exhibition of works directly on site.
• Music Production: An ideal acoustic environment for acoustic sessions and songwriting (live music available upon request).
• Filmmaking: A great, authentic backdrop, for instance for film students and independent filmmakers.
• Community Gatherings: A clubhouse for movie screenings, board games, cold cuts/platters, and good beer.

The studio also includes a cozy garden with the option to build a campfire or host a barbecue. The premises feature fully functional drinking water. (Note for visitors: a temporary toilet is functional, but to preserve authenticity, it is still undergoing final renovation).
